Elementary Schools

JCPS elementary schools are grouped into clusters of four to eight schools. A child's elementary cluster is determined by his or her home address, and transportation for that child is provided to all schools within his or her cluster. Most elementary school students choose to attend one of their cluster schools.

Parents must complete an online application to enroll their child in a cluster school. On the application, parents rank each school in their cluster according to their preferences. Our Office of School Choice then acts accordingly to place the child in a school. School Choice keeps siblings together in cluster schools when parents indicate the sibling’s school as their first choice. The district also considers parental choice, space, resides school, and diversity of the student body when placing students at schools.

Parents may also choose to apply to one of the district’s magnet schools or programs. They provide a particular learning focus or style. Schools with magnet programs serve both students who live in the school's cluster and those who live in other clusters but want to take advantage of the magnet program's particular learning theme (such as technology) or focus on a specific subject (such as environmental studies or health and fitness). An online application is also required for a magnet school or program. Magnet choices are considered before the elementary cluster assignments are processed. The deadline to submit an optional or magnet application is December 16, 2022. Late applications can still be submitted and are processed based on space and criteria (if required for the optional or magnet program).
