Heather Hoerter has been named the new executive principal of Marion C. Moore School, bringing 25 years of experience and a deep familiarity with the school community to her new appointment effective Aug. 4.
Hoerter, who served as Moore’s interim principal for six weeks during last school year, also previously worked as the school’s Health Sciences Academy principal, high school assistant principal, and high school guidance counselor.
“I love Moore and am incredibly honored to be the next leader,” Hoerter said. “Moore is an extremely special place to me. When we all pull in the same direction, with purpose and unity, our students will feel it. Together we are creating a learning environment where everything we do is connected, every student and staff matter.”
Throughout her 25-year career— as a teacher, counselor, and assistant principal in both Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) and the parochial school system— Hoerter has demonstrated the leadership skills and commitment needed to guide a school through meaningful transformation, said Dr. Joseph Ellison, JCPS assistant superintendent of high schools.
Her experience includes 10 years in administration as a school counselor and assistant principal, with five of those years at Moore. As the Health Sciences Academy principal, Hoerter oversaw the department including 23 staff members and 380 students, led professional development for high school teachers and a new teachers support group, and led instructional support for the school’s turnaround team, among other responsibilities.
“Her deep understanding of Moore’s journey positions her well to lead with purpose and build on the momentum that has been collaboratively created,” Ellison said. “We are confident that Mrs. Hoerter’s leadership will strengthen classroom instruction, foster a vibrant and inclusive school culture, and ensure that every student at Marion C. Moore has the opportunity to succeed.”
Hoerter earned a Rank 1 in Instructional Leadership and a Master of Arts in School Guidance and Counseling from Spalding University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Bellarmine University.
Throughout her time at Moore, Hoerter said she has remained committed to the belief that every student deserves not just academic success but a learning environment that nurtures their growth, celebrates their individuality, and prepares them for life beyond the classroom.
She is excited to bring the Explore program to Moore’s middle school grades to build upon the Academies of Louisville work already taking place at the high school level, ensuring students experience meaningful, and career-connected learning at every stage, she said.
“Marion C. Moore is more than just a workplace—it is where I’ve grown into the leader I am today,” Hoerter said in her application materials. “It’s where I’ve laughed, learned, problem-solved, and stood shoulder to shoulder with educators who share the same goal: to serve our students with excellence and heart. I am ready and eager to take the next step by leading this incredible school as its principal. I will continue to honor Moore’s mission while pushing us to grow, evolve, and rise together.”
