Board Meeting Recap

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - During the February 10, 2026, Jefferson County Board of Education meeting, the Board voted to postpone the vote on organizational charts until a special meeting on  Friday, February 13.

The meeting began with a presentation from Superintendent Dr. Yearwood on the proposed reorganizations of JCPS Departments, including the elimination of 213 occupied positions and 74 vacant positions, as well as the creation of 178 new positions. This was followed by a lengthy discussion, during which board members expressed concern about the time made available to review reorganization documents. District leadership uploaded these documents to the public portal on Monday evening, ahead of the Tuesday evening meeting.

Dr. Yearwood stressed that this reorganization is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible, in order to provide adequate time for transitions to new roles and hiring for new positions. “We said we were going to get to $132 million in cuts, and today we are there,” Dr. Yearwood said.
